Postgraduate and Research Department of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics offers undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph. D programmes in Mathematics. It has excellent faculty with 6 Ph. D. holders, who are actively involved in academic and institutional responsibilities. The department has always been committed to sustain excellence in its academic pursuits as well as co-curricular activities.

The Department started functioning, with the introduction Intermediate classes on 14th July 1955, the Day College was started. The Mathematics section became a full-fledged department in the year 1957 with the introduction of the B. Sc Mathematics. In 1965 postgraduate programme was also introduced. The Department is functioning as one of the Regional Research Centres of Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam from July 2021.

From a humble beginning, it has grown in leaps and bounds to stand tall today with excellent facilities. So far the department has produced more than 900 postgraduate and 2500 undergraduate students.

Right from the inception, the department has shown consistent performance and remarkable advancement in all matters of academic interest. The teachers are actively involved in research and have so far published around 50 papers in various National and International Journals. In order to familiarise the students with the recent trends in Mathematics the department regularly organizes, Seminars/ Conferences, and workshops.

Department of Mathematics was recognized as regional research centre in Mathematics under Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam in July 2021. Areas of research interest are Topology, Graph Theory, Algebra, Fuzzy Set Theory, Lattice and Fuzzy Algebra. The department has to its credit 85 research papers and 80 national/international presentations. Currently eight scholars are pursuing research.

   Welcome to the Postgraduate and Research Department of Mathematics. The Department is dedicated to impart quality education in Mathematics to the students. The Department currently has five well qualified, experienced fulltime faculty all of who are Ph. D. holders. Along with the responsibilities of teaching, the faculty members are actively involved in research and in organizing activities for the development of students. We strive to mould the character of the student and to bring out the best in each student both in academic and co-curricular activities and to support and encourage them to give their best.
