HOD’s Desk

It is my pleasure and honour to welcome you to the Postgraduate Department of Botany of Mar Athanasius College, Kothamangalam. The department of Botany which was started in the year 1965 was elevated as a postgraduate one in 2014 and anticipates to be a research centre in the immediate future. Ever since its establishment, the department has produced a large number of stalwarts who have taken lead in various walks of life. The main goal of the department is to impart quality education and inculcate the attitude of applied research in the minds of new entrants.
The amount of diversity in the field of Botany gives its students to choose their specializations in future as per their choice, aptitude and interests. There is huge scope in being a part of this field of science, merely on account of the amount of diversity it has to offer in this ‘bio era’. With the opportunity to learn about the varied forms of life ranging from microscopic organisms to giant trees, the diverse ecosystems, biological hotspots, natural resources, pollution its sources and after effects and the importance of maintaining ecological and environmental balance, the students of botany will work as ambassadors for a clean energy economy for the easy survival of the generations.
The college offers excellent infrastructure and laboratory facilities to the students. We hope that under the guidance of dedicated and committed faculty of the department and excellent lab and library resources, our students will be molded as worthy citizens with a sense of environmental and social responsibility.
